Professional Video Analysis and Biomechanical Training Workshop for Volleyball Hitters

(email us if you are interested in a similar workshop for setters)

High School • University • Professional Players

MAXIMUM of 8 participants per workshop.

This personalized workshop is for athletes who have the determination to take the wealth of instruction and information they learn in this workshop and work diligently to improve. We use the most sophisticated video analysis program in the industry (the same as on Olympic telecasts) to record and analyze your technique. Then we’ll show you step-by-step, on-screen and on-court, what you are doing well and what needs to be corrected. You will watch yourself in slow motion or freeze frame action side-by-side with technically sound advanced players to help you correct your spike approach, arm swing, and landing.

The thorough and precise training in this workshop will help you

  • Spike with more power and control using technique that is biomechanically sound for injury prevention
  • Jump higher
  • Increase your approach speed
  • Land correctly to minimize risk of back, knee, and ankle injuries
  • Convert approach speed and momentum to jump energy
  • Improve your blocking

After the initial video analysis, you will work with the clinicians to learn how to correct any faults. Our staff has helped players improve at all levels, including professional players, university players, and top level Junior Olympic and high school players. (The initial skill level of the player is not as important as the absolute dedication to improvement.)

“I have a stress fracture in a lower vertebrae. Carolyn showed me a flaw in my technique that possibly caused it and what adjustments I should make in my approach and jump to prevent further injury.”  Katie Vatterrodt, professional volleyball player and former U of MN player.

Additional note for high school players: The objective of this workshop is to refine and maximize the technique of strong hitters who can consistently hit all sets and want to maximize everything. Contrast that to a player who is learning how to hit consistently. Developing hitters start their approach too early at times and too late at times. A good coach can quickly tell a player if she is too early or too late just by watching. It doesn’t matter that much if a hitter has a faster approach if she is not sure when to start her approach. It takes many repetitions to learn the proper timing for every ball, because each one varies according to how high and fast the set is and where the setter initiates the set.

The S.P.I.K.E.™ Workshop

SUCCESS = Positive Imagery + Kinetic Energy

S.P.I.K.E.™ Workshop brochure

We can put on a S.P.I.K.E.™ Workshop custom designed for YOUR team in YOUR gym.  The S.P.I.K.E.™ Workshop is a fast-paced, stimulating, high-energy volleyball workshop focusing on the enormous and vital psychological component of athletic performance and success.  It is for players who are committed to being the best players and best team players they can be.

In one short workshop (3-4 hours), we’ll give your players the tools they need to develop into a motivated, inspired, unified team. You, as coach, will need to reinforce and support these positive changes, but the foundation for success will be solidly established.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP?

The entire focus of The S.P.I.K.E.™ Workshop is the ‘head game’ that even at the high school varsity level comprises 50-70% of the game. We teach the importance of confidence, motivation, team unity, desire, maturity, and how to achieve them. Coaches can spend their precious practice time honing physical skills.  We concentrate on mental skills.

Every coach knows that changing a losing mind-set to a winning one is challenging. S.P.I.K.E.™ Workshop participants will immediately dive into demonstrations, examples, case studies, and hands-on exercises to first understand and then begin changing the “mind-set brick walls” that keep them from reaching their full potential. We teach “why” and “how” with many compelling examples.

This workshop was originally designed for volleyball. While we kept the original name, the principles apply to all athletes and we will customize it for any sport.
